Potluck and Planning

This Sunday, we will have an abbreviated service with Ethan as our worship associate. Afterward, we will have a potluck, a planning meeting and/or yard work for willing participants. If you are willing and able to do yard work, you will probably want to wear clothes you can get dirty in. Please bring a potluck dish to share if you are willing and able. If not, we hope you will come anyway. Meet in person at CVUU or online through Zoom on Sunday at 10:00 AM.

Soul Matters Discussion – Living Love Through the Practice of Invitation

September 14th’s discussion for Soul Matters will be, “Living Love, Through the Practice of Invitation” led by Manny Espinoza. A genuine invitation comes from a place of love. A desire to share a moment, a place, or an experience, with someone you care about. Invitation is not only about the act of inviting, but to authentically invite, is to give a choice. “Power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.” -Martin Luther King Jr. Meet in person at CVUU … Continue reading Soul Matters Discussion – Living Love Through the Practice of Invitation

Water Communion

This Sunday’s Water Communion service will be led by Jo Leary. Bring a cup of water from a special place to share (it’s not required). Throughout the year, some members of CVUU have collected small amounts of water that has meaning for them, either from a special location (e.g., the family home, an ocean or river, memento of a trip) or a special occasion (first rain after a dry spell). At our water communion service, the samples of water are poured together in a single bowl so they can merge. The combined water is symbolic of our shared faith coming from many different sources. The Water Communion Service is an … Continue reading Water Communion

A Brief History of American Labor Movements

As we near the Labor Day long weekend, there’s one question on everyone’s mind… What are we celebrating, exactly? Despite years of historic decline, unions are starting to spring up in workplaces around the country, and it’s becoming more important than ever to learn the history of American labor movements. We’ll talk about the rights that our predecessors fought for, the power of peaceful protest, and how to enact meaningful societal change today- or at least an introduction to these ideas, as well as how they might relate to our 7 UU Principles. Meet in person at CVUU or online through Zoom on Sunday at 10:00 AM.

Part 2 – Threats to the North Bench of the Little Logan River

Join Susanne Jänecke and perhaps some other members of the Two River Coalition to explore the North Branch of the Logan River (NBLR) in our city, its values and threats to its existence as a river. We will review the history and geology of the rivers, update with new information, and leave time to discuss what could happen to the NBLR if the proposed Logan River Watershed Project is approved and funded. Piping, burial of its upstream end, pressurizing its water, lining of the river channel, and continued diversion of ALL of its waters after irrigation season are in play. We hope to restore the river to a free flowing … Continue reading Part 2 – Threats to the North Bench of the Little Logan River
