Gender Disparity in Clinical Research

Until 1993, clinical research studies did not require the inclusion of women. Today, only 4% of biopharma research and development spending is dedicated to female-specific conditions. Approximately 75% of clinical trial participants are men, while only 25% are women. Why does gender disparity remain so significant in medical research, and what impact does this have on underrepresented demographics? In this presentation, we will explore the historical context of including women and minorities in clinical research, examine current trends, and discuss ongoing efforts to improve representation. What are gifts and how do we give and receive them with willingness? What is the nature of gifts? It’s easy to think about gifts as things we receive for free, and that’s a small part of it. But what If the whole world were made up of gifts? What if our relationships consisted of “mutual giving from the heart” as Marshall Rosenberg put it. What if we saw natural resources as “earthly gifts” in the words of Robin Wall Kimmerer. And what’s more, how do we learn to give and receive genuine gifts without resentment?
