Life as No One Knows It: The Physics of Life’s Emergence

December 8th, Allen Howard will give us an overview of the above subject interspersed with his thoughts.

The origins of life: why, when, where, and how? We know the when and where. Why is in part a personal matter and not the subject of this talk. How it began is.

To study this, a workable definition of life and how to recognize is needed. The definition must provide a pathway for its discovery. The subject has led to a new active branch of scientific endeavor, combining biology, chemistry, and physics. There are now technical meetings and theoretical and experimental research into this emergent field.

The principal reference is Sara Imari Walker’s new book. She is an astrobiologist professor at Arizona State University.

Meet in person at CVUU or online through Zoom on Sunday at 10:00 AM.
