Freedom Discussion

As Americans, we hear about freedom quite a lot- and I’m not all that sure that we agree on exactly what it is. Depending on who you’re listening to, freedom is: * the founding principle of our nation, certainly at risk from your political opponents * paid for in blood, and constantly taken for granted * a damn good excuse for an awful lot of concerning policies and decisions Maybe this isn’t as simple as it sounds in political speeches or on TV. Join us on June 8th for a thoughtful discussion on freedom; what it means to us, and what we can do to preserve our most highly-regarded and … Continue reading Freedom Discussion

Stories for All Ages: Speaking Up!

We had so much fun with this last time, that we’re doing it again! On Sunday, June 1, we will use children’s picture books to explore the theme of “Speaking Up.” If you have a favorite storybook on that theme to share, please bring it! Jo will also bring several from the library and we will read and discuss them in small groups before sharing with the whole group together. We’d love to have the youngsters participate in this as well. Meet in person at CVUU or online through Zoom on Sunday at 10:00 AM.

While science and religion both arise from our need to cope with experience, science and religion are responses to fundamentally different questions. Science can help us discover the … Continue reading Science and Religion

Meet in person at CVUU or online through Zoom on Sunday at 10:00 AM.

Flower Communion and New Membership Service

Celebrate beauty, community, and connection at our annual Flower Communion Service! Bring a flower if you can—extras will be available—and take home a different one as a symbol of shared community and diversity. We’ll also be joyfully welcoming new members during a special Membership Ceremony. Join us for this Sunday full of meaning and celebration. The Flower Communion service was created by Norbert Capek (1870-1942), who founded the Unitarian Church in Czechoslovakia. He introduced this special service to that church on June 4, 1923. For some time he had felt the need for some symbolic ritual that would bind people more closely together. The format had to be one that … Continue reading Flower Communion and New Membership Service
