This weekend Kevin Whitaker will speak and lead a discussion related to the UU Principles of compassion in human relations and the right of conscience in the democratic process.

More specifically, I grew up surrounded by small c conservatives: people who revere tradition, religion, and generally drag their feet against what many would consider “progressive” (yes, these things apply in a political realm as well, but I’m attempting to come at this a bit more broadly). It’s a mindset that has always baffled me, and, to some degree, still does. However, in trying to understand what makes these people who they are, I’ve come across some insights that make some sense of it to me. Please feel free to come with your own ideas to challenge mine or add to mine in discussion as well. – Kevin
